"Labels hit back at Apple, now want share of iPod...
I generally use the iTunes Music Store because I’ll pay for convenience. However, price hikes would be enough to switch me back to P2P networks. I remember the reason I skipped the new Foo Fighters album was that it was priced around $18.98 — too expensive.
I’m sure most others feel the same way. I wonder how this will affect the unlimited subscriptions offered by Napster and...
Let's Hear It for My Friends' Band
These guys I know (identical-twins Tyler and Lee) are in a band called “Clap your hands, Say Yeah”… they’re actually doing pretty well. Today they’ve been written up in the NY Times.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - the name comes from graffiti in Brooklyn, home of the drummer Sean Greenhalgh; the guitarist and keyboardist Robbie Guertin; and Tyler and Lee Sargent,...
WinMX Vanishes.
So today’s news is that the File Sharing program ‘WinMX’ (it’s a classic, almost back to the Napster days) has disappeared and stopped working, most likely due to the letters that the RIAA/MPAA sent around. However, I and many others don’t think it’ll be gone for long.
What people are forgetting or never knew about was that the WinMX software has been out-dated...
Nullsoft Beep
“Nullsoft Beep is an application that makes your computer sound like computers sound in the movies. It requires Windows 95 or later with DirectX 3 or later.”
Pretty cool. :) http://www.nullsoft.com/free/nbeep/
iPod Nanos sales are slow.
Summary: They’re selling slowly… and the black ones are selling like hot-cakes compared to the classic iPod-white.
Here’s an interesting alternative product line-up:
iPod Shuffle — 1GB (240 songs) — $99
iPod Mini (v2) — 2GB (500 songs) — $199
iPod Nano (black) — 4GB (1000 songs) — $249
iPod Classic — 20GB+ (5,000 songs) — $299...
Mobile17 anniversary.
A week ago I quietly released a new version of Mobile17. Now that the bugs seem to be worked out (more or less), I’m pleased to announce that earlier today, the counter on its homepage hit 300,000 tone/graphic creations since Mobile17’s original transition from smashTheTONES. By complete coincidence, today is also Mobile17’s four-month anniversary.
New features and sites coming...
The iPod Nano
Although I expected to see the iPod Nano announcement today, I was shocked to find out that it’s replaced the iPod Mini. I think that was a huge mistake! They had such a short life-span on the shelves and came in all of those colors… what’s Apple thinking? It was probably a difficult business decision… the Nano must be cheaper to produce and expand… as the tiny...
Sony Ericsson K750i/W800i... The Perfect PSP...
These phones have the same memory stick slot as the PSP. You can use the phone to move files around and listen to your PSP music’s and watch supported videos. You can even take pictures on the phone and view them on your PSP’s beautiful screen, and use your phone’s web browser to download files when you’re away from Wi-Fi Hotspots.
Is this a match made in heaven? :) The...
"Gas Prices Drive Man to Commute by Horse"
“He said he and his co-workers had been talking about rising fuel prices, and he joked that he would ride his horse to work if gasoline ever hit $3 a gallon…. He said he was only five minutes late riding his mare, Patty, to work…. While he worked, Patty waited patiently, eating hay out of the back of a truck.”
This man is a hero. (P.S. This is my 250th Blog Post!) :)
Google Maps adds Katrina Map
The damage is massive… floods everwhere. The detail is pretty good, unfortunately. :(
I cropped this image together. (didn’t line up as I had hope, heh.)
The Saga of the EV-1
A few years ago, GM introduced the EV-1 electric car and the Chevy S10 electric truck to comply with California’s energy laws. (which insisted upon a certain number of zero-emission vehicles) However, once GM found a way around the law, by donating electric golf-carts to local neighborhoods… they snatched the cars back from their owners, who offered thousands of dollars to keep their...
Lame: "Microsoft eyes retail space in Times...
“Faced with the undeniable success of Apple’s retail store strategy, Microsoft is reportedly prepping its own retail boutiques, the first of which may turn up in the heart of New York City.”
Bill must be feeling the heat… again. :)
