Mastercard “PayPass” and RFID… just tap your credit card to pay? 💳

Last week sometime, my bank debit-card was frozen because somebody somehow was able to charge $1.27 USD to it! Gee, thanks, whoever that was! 🙄 …😅

In all seriousness, though, apparently this is a tactic that thieves use to “test” cards that they think may go largely unmonitored by their owners. — If nobody notices a small but unusual charge (which the bank probably won't either), then the thieves know that they can probably use the card for much larger charges over-time before it's shut off.

Anyway, so the new card that I received as a replacement has this new “PayPass” RFID technology that's provided by Mastercard… and it's actually pretty cool. — I'm not sure how secure it is, since you can just hold it near the payment terminal without actually having to physically swipe it, but it is faster to pay with… it seems. 🤔

… Hopefully, this can make up for some of the time I lost having to phone the bank and be without a working card for a bit. 😄
